Re: slot chisel
That's unfortunate. That's a lot of runout for a gear.

Re: Allowing For Bending Radius Folding 3mm Small Aluminium Sheet
I agree that he doesn't need a true radius, but he keeps coming back to trying to wanting to calculate bend allowance to cut the sheet to size prior to bending, which is difficult without knowing a fairly true radius. All goes back to a very early post in this discussion that really the only way to ...

Re: Allowing For Bending Radius Folding 3mm Small Aluminium Sheet
Brakes generally have a way to adjust the position of the top bending edge in relation to the pivot point. This is needed to account for various thickness's of material. The further back from the fold pivot the more radius you get. Just changing the setback alone will result in an odd shaped bend t...

Re: Allowing For Bending Radius Folding 3mm Small Aluminium Sheet
The only way you are going to figure any of this out is to bend a test piece.pollys1dad wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 3:45 pm Did you see the photos I posted of the metal folder I have?

Re: Allowing For Bending Radius Folding 3mm Small Aluminium Sheet
If the shape in the first post is what you are trying to bend, you might not be able to do it with your brake depending on which direction the bends are. If the bend lines are the 300mm direction you might be out of luck trying to make all 90 degree bends. You may only be able to complete three bend...

Re: Allowing For Bending Radius Folding 3mm Small Aluminium Sheet
Once you have a bend made, Measure the "A" dimension. If it is too short, move your bend line out accordingly. If too long, move your bend line in accordingly. Once you have that, measure the "B" dimension. If too short, widen the panel accordingly. If too long, narrow it. You ne...

Re: Allowing For Bending Radius Folding 3mm Small Aluminium Sheet
Since you are not using a press brake and setting up for production, here is the short version. Take a test panel and place a line down the center of the panel. Make your bend. Measure dimension "A". Is it the proper dimension from center? Measure dimension "B". Is it the proper ...

Re: Bronze/Brass Investment Foundry in SE USA
Many years ago I knew an older gentleman in Ft Lauderdale that did all of the bronze casting for Chris-Chraft back when they were still building wood boats in Pompano Beach. I was searching to see if they may possibly still be in business, which they are not, but I did run across this: http://www.am...

Re: Mill work holding advice ?
A challenge with holding just the shaft in the vise is that there is so much projecting or overhanging from the vise that it is difficult to keep it level. Place a machinist jack under the end not in the vise, and then sweep the shaft area to be cut with a DTi to check for parallelism with the tabl...

Re: Allowing For Bending Radius Folding 3mm Small Aluminium Sheet
Unless you are using a press brake where you can control where the center of the bend will be, and you have a true radius on the die, trying to calculate accurate bends is an exercise in frustrtion. Do as "arborist" states, and use index marks on test pieces for reference and adjust accord...
