Re: Sheldon lathes
... up to a South Bend or Monarch. I am not in a position to evaluate one lathe against another. I think my Sheldon is a great lathe. It works well ... Graziano. A respectable machine, but hardly in the class of Monarch or Axelson. My advice? Don't worry about what others think of your Sheldon. ...

Re: Grizzly Call RE G0509G Gunsmith Lathe
Okay, here is the coolest gap lathe in the universe. YAb81qyvRZM That is what I was showing you, only I showed you a LeBlond. If I remember correctly Axelson and Nebel make them also. Not easy to find one usually. Century is made in Washington and ...

Re: Does This Thing Require Gear-Swapping?
They are very nice lathes patterned after the Mori which I lust after. VERY sturdy and available with lots ... features that could be found on comparable sized DSG, Monarch, L&S, Axelson, etc. In any case, I believe that lathe is similar to mine in that it can turn ...

Vost lathe 18" swing
I am going to look at a Vost lathe which has an 18" swing and 60" center. I have never used one and was ... a medium duty lathe from the pictures I have found on the internet. Compared to an Axelson or Lodge & Shipley As far as I know it has a steady rest and possibly has ...

Re: axelson lathe not doing too good
Would have been nice if you had the drawings. Have to admit Ken is supportive. He and many are knowledgeable yet need more clue. Look at eshow it was assembled and work back thru that. More than that, certain elements were tested along the way. This is maybe like a transmission with a hidden snap ri...

Re: axelson lathe not doing too good
Well, I am at a standstill on the axelson. I have one shaft left in the gearbox that I need to remove before I can get ... I have right now. Honestly, the way things are going I regret ever getting this lathe and frankly I am getting quite discouraged with everything and don't know which ...

Re: axelson lathe not doing too good
Well, it didn't go too good yesterday. I managed to get 2 shafts out but have yet to get to the clutch shaft. Apparently the clutch shaft may have a shifter fork that is keeping it from sliding out so I guess my next plan will be to remove it and see if I can get the clutch shaft out this way. Overa...

Re: axelson lathe not doing too good
Thanks for the update. I'm torn between saying something and remaining silent. To replace "all the bearings" is somewhat counterproductive. I would follow that "glitch" that you felt and was evident. If one ball or roller self destructed it caused havoc at speed. Other ones uncon...

Re: axelson lathe not doing too good
Here's an update on the axelson lathe. I tinkered with it for about 15 minutes today and removed part of the machine that contains some of ...
