Re: axelson lathe not doing too good

Hi Todd,

Really I would say thats not foolish at all. If you have it tore down, now
would be the time to replace bearings, seals etc. If you rebuild this monster
the right way now, you will never have to do it again in your life time.

Just my two cents

Re: axelson lathe not doing too good

I will keep everyone posted on my progress. It may be a little while as I am probably going to have to order the bearings. Another thing that I have in mind is maybe while I have it down maybe going ahead and replacing all of the bearings. This would probably be foolish as I would have to take apart...

Re: axelson lathe not doing too good

While it's unlikely others will benefit much (precious few own one of these excellent machines), it will be interesting to hear what you discover, so please do a follow-up post and describe the problem, and the cure.

Re: axelson lathe not doing too good

I really want to get this one going. For the most part it seems to me that it will be the most versatile lathe in the shop. It is heavy duty enough to take large cuts but yet the chuck on the machine will handle smaller pieces. I must admit that I am intimidated by this machine ...

Re: axelson lathe not doing too good

Todd,

This place sells Parts, Operator Manuals, Repair/Maintenance Manuals, Parts Manuals, for
your lathe. They say that if they are out of any manuals they will make a copy for the
customer. :)

... except one clutch or face slips while dragging you down in the opposite direction. Keep at it, there may be some linkage problem. That's a huge lathe for me. I don't know anything about it. i don't think you are getting a positive connection on one side without a counter operating. If there is ...
