I uploaded a video of my CNC conversion of the ZX7016 mill and I would like to share it with you :)

Congrats! You made it work for your needs. Noticed you went with ball screws.
I too just jumped into the CNC milling world, with a Taig.

Re: Are 3D Printers Finally Practical?

I just bought a Taig ballscrew CNC, and an Acorn. Can't wait to give it a try. As for printing stuff, try using it for actual parts.

I've used 1018 CR only to have it warp like a banana after each end was machined

I would feel lost if I no longer had access to my Prusa i3 Mk2.5 with Bear upgrade. It is a valuable tool for unlimited things.

Re: Brushless Motor Controller

Equal the performance for this application. For R/C airplanes, brushless motors equal their IC counterparts, and even exceed them. Thrust to weight ratios that were only a dream two decades ago. But yes, for a slow moving torque hungry locomotive, their advantages aren't really needed. I think I am ...

Re: Brushless Motor Controller

I built a speeder from an electric scooter that had one of those brushless motors. The motor with two small sealed lead acid batteries could run around the GGLS track for 4.5 hours(I timed it until my butt couldn't take it anymore). Brushless motors are efficient, and have lots of torque. The motor ...

Re: Brushless Motor Controller

The brushless controller, is it a re-purposed RC controller, or an industrial type? If it's for R/C, you might as well plug it into a R/C receiver and have radio control of your train. If you want to be more old fashioned about it, you can use an arduino that outputs the PWM signal it wants, and plu...

Re: Electric motors

Mr ron .. most motors apart from modern ac brushless servos have very low torque at low speeds, and usually high heat. For traction apps like a train, you do not want a high rpm motor. It is not hard to make a gearset to step down the speed, but it is VERY very very hard to make one able to deal wi...

Re: Electric motors

R/C airplanes are probably my most active long standing hobby. Those brushless DC motors have an important spec you should pay close attention to, kV. It's the unloaded rpm per volt. Besides that, you have in-runners used most on boats and cars, and out runners that have less rpm and more torque, us...

Re: Wag railroad 132 ton GE Center cab blueprints

A few years ago I took a trip up to North East PA, Railroad Museum, where the center cab is currently located and took some rough dimensions! what I'd like to have a set of drawings or blueprints to the engine any source anybody know?? All I had to go on was rough dimensions I took, coupled with a ...
