Re: Wayne Godshall - Serious Accident - Reaching the Shop
I ordered about 10 different packs of nuts, bolts and washers 11/8, they were in my mailbox in Oregon on 11/10. That is great service under any conditions, and I am glad to hear Wayne is healing up.

Re: 20 Ton Narrow Gauge Shay
Charlie, I may be nuts but I didn't rivet my frame, I put it together with 8-32 cap screws so I could take it apart if I had to. I've probably done it twice. The rounded head of the screws doesn't look too bad, the hex hole kinda fades into the blackness.

Re: Grand Scale Freight Yard Aspirations
The whole rail-water interface around NY is fascinating to me. If you want to go down that rabbit hole, it's here: http://www.trainweb.org/bedt/IndustrialLocos.html. I particularly liked Bush Terminal and Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal.

Re: Grand Scale Freight Yard Aspirations
Pretty sure the original photo was the Lehigh Valley yard in Jersey City. Also pretty sure the barges were not self-powered. Maybe quarters for the bargemen though.

Re: Grand Scale Freight Yard Aspirations
I think it's Jersey City too. There is a bluff in Weehawken and so the railroads paralleled the river there. Anyone know what the rectangular box vessels with the central square protrusion are? Those are lighters used to move freight around NY harbor. Areas without carfloat service had freight offlo...

Re: Happy 4th of July
I did the Billy Jones #2 up that way one 4th without really considering all the ramifications. Those crepe decorations really burn well, but with a little rearrangement things were ok. I was on pins and needles checking them though.

I'm always amazed when people tell me this. I couldn't even get the bolts to the halfshafts of my baywindow bus out in that time, but I know I'm slow.Greg_Lewis wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 9:04 pm (You can pull the engine in 20 minutes with a screwdriver, one wrench, and a floor jack.)

Cranbrook ties together a lot of things about Steve. I did not know he was George and Ellen Booth's grandson and a Cranbrook alum, it makes total sense he'd leave his works there.

St. Croix, they have 5", 4-3/4", 3-1/2", 2-1/2".. And I'm sure there's another... I think the elevated track has 7-1/2" so you can use a wider riding flatcar than 4-3/4". Steve Correct. We added the 5" when we rebuilt the high line, and the 7.5" allowed our w...

Re: To pre-order or not to pre-order, that is the question
Short take, you make great stuff, do whatever you need to do to stay in business. People in this hobby are (or should be) accustomed to waiting, be it for a Ridge boiler, a Rizzoli whistle, or an EE injector. Good stuff comes to those who wait! I have to admit to a bit of confusion though about expr...

Re: Historic 1" live steam 1970's southern MN
Thanks for posting those Jeff, real Midwest live steam history. I wish I'd spent more time with Richard Winkle when I first moved to Rochester, he had a bunch of photos too and I don't know what happened to them now. Andy, you just need to get out more, but maybe not at $6 a gallon. Dave Gumz used t...

Train Mountain finally published the complete list of vendors in the May newsletter, available on their site. But if it was just going to be you three, at least it was three good ones!
