Re: Plastic Parts for Microwave Oven
What is "microwave safe" depends on where it is..... I have an Amana, and there is a "stirrer/antenna" in the feed horn that spins from the airflow to even the distribution of RF energy. it has a plastic bearing washer, that evidently got a bit of crud on it that contaminated it ...

Re: Dumb Question on Parallels
It's generally fine if they stick out, AFAIK..... unless they hit a hold-down or whatever.

Re: ***Saddle V ways question***
Hey, JT, You need another little project, don't you? If that was aimed at THIS JT, I don't actually, I have that very thing to do (eventually) to a Logan (wear). meanwhile I am going through" a Benchmaster, and have the knee to do a complete survey of now..... I can see that my newly made &quo...

Re: ***Saddle V ways question***
It's not an impossibility that there may very well be more to the story! THAT is a pretty good assessment.....! if the makers got the saddle cross-slide way that messed up, AND NEVER NOTICED IT, one is entitled to wonder what ELSE may be messed up...... because the cross-slide is a pretty big deal....

Re: Machinist boxes, new felt on metal bottom drawers.. rust
So I painted the metal insides, and after quite dry, hide-glued the felt in. used "bottle" glue, as I only needed a small amount. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0803/jstanley/G-boxF1.jpg The "finish" on the metal seems to have been either a coating, or a plain mill hot finish....

Re: Did Gerstner ever make boxes with WOOD bottom drawers?
Did you pay the $50 fee?
If you have a G-box and want info, they charge $50 for it, according to the FAQ on the site..... I didn't need to know that badly!
Given that the box was originally leatherette, why didn't you re-cover it? I expect I will probably do that to this one.

Looks like the wood was decent despite having been intended to be covered up by the leatherette.

Re: boring bar sharpening
it's possible that they are made with a problem built-in. And I consider most of the import ones bad specifically because of that flex............ At one time I had a pic of an American "sheeps-foot" bar, and a china or India-made one of the same nominal size..... The US made bar had a fat...

Re: Did Gerstner ever make boxes with WOOD bottom drawers?
Since asking, I have heard that many much newer Gerstner boxes have the lowest drawer with wood bottom, as the one I pictured has. Possibly this is because that drawer is the most exposed, via the slide-in area, so it might cool quickly and "sweat" if made of metal. I still think the one i...

Re: boring bar sharpening
Those are the "sheep's foot" style, and can presumably be badly made, such that they do not cut. But it is dependent on tool angle, height, rotational position in holder, etc. Do you have a picture of the setup that they don't cut in???? The end should be relieved vertically such that the ...

Re: What / how much should be visible?
The Father-in-law's best high school buddy (they are both still in same area up in Ohio) is a welder.... he muttered something about "yeah, class, nothing WRONG with classes, but you won't know anything until you have run about 500 foot of bead in each position and joint type"..... I recko...

Re: What / how much should be visible?
Since the earlier posts, the class has progressed, and I find that after doing overhead joints, (which I very strangely found to be almost easy, and was checked off on in a single lab class) the welding in flat position is stupidly easy...... I also got a slight magnifier lens and did some other thi...
