Have to hold the collet still with your foot, giving you two hands free to tighten the collet. First thing I would do is come up with a quill lock that doesn't need to be held by hand. If you haven't already, with a lint free rag, wipe off as much oil as you can off the mill's taper and collet Belts...

Welcome back Daddy! Now, if your my daddy, I get to borrow the Monarch! :) :D  I never tried it, but there are digital tachs made for bicycles. I'll bet one of those would work on your lathe for about $15 at your favorite xxxmart. I also saw one somewhere that you just print out and tape to the...

Get one of those micro fiber cloths and you can use it as a rag and skip the air. I get a bundle at Sam's club for $12 and give my wife half the bag. Makes her happy, which is good for everyone.

One thing I thought of, if you want to eliminate gib adjustments, get it set up for a cut, then tighten all the gibs down all the way, then engage the half nut and let it cut. If the gibs were loose, it should not chatter. Oh, another, to verify it's not a tool height problem, try setting it a bit h...

Move on a year or so, and I accidentally bought a huge (50x11) TOS FNK 25 mill.
 Hmmmm, wonder if I can buy one and use that excuse on the wife, "It was by accident, honest"

Welcome, Dave!
