Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4
Thanks for all the positive comments. But to tell the truth there is a couple more years of work to finish it. After this years run the list of things to do include: Building the Head Light Building the final Cab. I have received a large section of ash to saw up for that project. Building the Water ...

Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4
The September run at MSLS went well with no issues. Once again I ran the week before the meet and left on Thursday when the public runs started. Myself and friends ended up putting nine miles more on the engine. I was also invited to the run at the Canton, St. Paul and Pacific Railways track at Cant...

Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4
Continuing on with the front details. Mostly working from various photos as to the layout of the parts. Current project is the number plate and new smoke box door. The earlier attempt was just too small. DSC_6818.jpg Time to button up for the September run at Mid-South. If you see me, please introdu...

Re: Mercer "Sunbeam Headlight"
Not sure who made it. I have taken it off an engine that I have converted and no longer need it. I have photos of it on a Larry Kombrink engine in 1970 timeframe. One of the side bulbs needs to be replaced.

Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4
Working on the Pilot Beam details. Still no plans. working from photos in the two Peter S. Barney books using quite a bit of artistic license. The coupler pocket still needs the welds ground out. I am currently making the other smoke box to pilot brace. The front coupler is a Accucraft 2.5 inch scal...

Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4
Still out here chugging along. Miss Ann and I continue our journey. After the Spring Meet and MSLS, which came off with out a major issue this time, I came home with nothing to repair, except the front pilot beam, having pranged it on the rear of Fenders Caboose. Luckily his caboose is built of plat...

Re: Locomotive Steaming Down Tips
Does anybody use a nitrogen or other inert gas purge? Bill I am very new to this compared to most. Being in the club with Pontiacguy, I know the member who uses argon or nitrogen for storage. Being in avionics all my life, we used nitrogen for any pressure vessel, tire, or wave guide. Not having a ...

Linen fishing line from 1925 wrapped and painted. Surely not a great insulator but will protect your fingers.
