Re: Florida loses a great Live Steamer
I too will miss Charlie. I am most fortunate to be able to consider him a friend and mentor. He was always happy to take all the time necessary to explain a point that you did not understand. We have lost one of the old time Live Steam Gentlemen and the hobby will be weaker for it. One of the moment...

Florida loses a great Live Steamer
It's with great sadness that I say that Florida Live Steam Hobby has lost one of it's great members: Charles Strother Stringfellow STRINGFELLOW Charles Strother Stringfellow, 92, died peacefully Sunday, March 6, 2011. Mr. Stringfellow was born in Richmond, Virginia on February 13, 1919, the son of B...

Re: Axle/Race help?
Rather than using a torch to heat the bearing, which can result in overheating very quickly, consider an old deep fat fryer. Advantages are temperature control, Lube is NEVER bad for bearings, uniform heating, etc. I used to run a large machine shop who had machine assemblers fitting hundreds of bea...

I spoke to Mike, a little while ago. Heavy haul trucking, primarily for the government keeps him on the road a lot. He will return emails, but it may take a while.

Re: How to shield areas from case hardening
Just a comment, I've not tried it, but I've been told that ordinary whiteout, allowed to dry will act as a stopoff for casehardening. I would certainly test on a scrap piece before I tried it on a good part!

Pipescs,
The engine that Fltenwheeler referred to is probably Paul Stewarts engine. many parts were built by Bob Dean of Bob Dean Supply.
see his ad on Discover Live Steam for sale page. I have always found him to be very helpful to those in the hobby

Re: Eureka Project
Jessie, You said that you had drawings of the oil-burning headlamp for this engine. I have a mockup that i removed from one of my engines, and would like to rebuild it more prototypical. Can you/will you sell a copy of this drawing? any reasonable cost for your time and trouble is acceptable. Thanks...

Tank sealant
Go to your nearest motorcycle shop (harley for me) They have an excellent kit , cleaner, prep, and sealer used to restore motorcycle tanks. The name escapes me at the moment (senior moment) I have had good luck with it
