Re: Union Pacific Big Boy 4012 in 1.5"

Components for the boiler centring device brackets are all done, hoping to get a chance to braze them in the next day or two. I do my brazing at work where I can use the company o/a set and not have to worry about lack of heat or the gas bill haha

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy 4012 in 1.5"

The front engine lubricator supports have been fabricated in brass to match the drawings. Once all the parts were brazed up I finished off all the profile radii on the rotary table. It was tricky to get all the radii correct, but I took my time and I'm happy with the results. I took to all the edges...

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy 4012 in 1.5"

There's been some interesting discussion on the post recently, thanks to all the contributors! The past month has been great as far as progress is concerned, I've had an average 2-3 hours a day in the shop making chips. Work is still concentrating on the modification of Challenger frame castings to ...

Re: 1940's German loco construction

Great find, thanks for sharing! How times have changed!?! Now everyone would be in hi-vis, safety glasses, hard hats, ear muffs, gloves. Safe work method statements would need to be filled out along with site inductions, hot work permits, confined spaces permits, risk assessments and you would barel...

Re: What did you pay for Lasercut / Watercut frame?

Big Boy frames were $1200 including material.

I gave the company a hard copy of the drawings, they drew it up and did a test cut in 1mm Aluminium for me to take home and check. All was well and we went ahead and cut them from 20mm hot rolled.

Re: Any Interest In 1.5" Nathan DV-2, DV-3 and DV-5 Lubricat

Thanks to all for the information you've brought to light! I'm starting on patterns for a DV-3 as this seems to be the most popular/in demand unit. Unfortunately, Ward, I'll have to let go of the idea of producing a DV-8. I can't find enough information. Everything I have found though points towards...

Re: Any Interest In 1.5" Nathan DV-2, DV-3 and DV-5 Lubricat

Thanks for the replies, I'll pick up some brass bar and begin making chips in the next week or so.

Ward, I wasn't aware of the DV-8. Do you have any reference material, photos or drawings you could send my way?

I'm still on the hunt for DV-5 drawings also.

Any Interest In 1.5" Nathan DV-2, DV-3 and DV-5 Lubricators?

Following the popularity of my 1.5" scale Nathan DV-7 lubricators, a few requests for other models, mostly the DV-2, DV-3 and DV-5 have been trickling in. Before I commit to tooling and other associated costs I'm looking for expressions of interest to gauge whether or not it would be a viable v...

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy 4012 in 1.5"

Gary, I've been following your R class build from the sidelines and wow!!! Beautiful model of a beautiful loco, I hope I'll see it around sometime. I'm heading to the Steamrail Newport open day in March, hopefully I'll be able to get up close and personal with either 711 or 761. Hmm, a lot of 5"...
