We'll just have to disagree then. It's just more of a cut than I feel comfortable with on my 8520, especially with a shell mill (1-1/2"?).

Nice job on the holder, BTW.

Rob,

0.150 DOC still seems like a lot more than is justified on an 8520 mill, even for aluminum, depending on other conditions. What size/type of cutter and what width of cut were you using?

Re: 8520 bearings

Did I get that right? .30 depth of cut? I don't cut much aluminum , but I,d still never take that much bite in any material. Depends on the task at hand, as well as the machine and end mill, wouldn't you say? There are many occasions where you could take far more, especially in aluminum.. Harold Ha...

I've got an old SB brochure from the 60's that has 4 pages of info on the mill and it's accessories. Email me if you'd like a scanned copy.

Try www.owwm.com for manuals and brochures. The site is for woodworkers but Delta/Milwaukee made the 14-in vertical bandsaws in both wood and metalworking models. The latter featured two sets of pulleys and a gear system to switch between WW (high speed) and MW (low speed) modes. I think that Ace Re...

Sounds like you are looking for threaded transfer screws, made by Heimann. www.mcmaster.com sells them - see page 2263 in their on-line catalog. They also have some other types on the same page.

If the buna N doesn't compress enough to allow your part to pull down flat. I seem to remember seeing closed cell foam cord somewhere in one of my publications. When I was in the automotive machine shop business, I had a vacuum crack detection bench that used a piece of closed cell foam to sit the ...

LP, I've had an older Shooting Star model on a Clausing 8520 mill for a number of years and it still works great. Keep in mind that the resolution of the DRO is 0.0005" which gets doubled for turning a diameter. At best accuracy on diameter with teh CBX and a ltahe will be 0.001" and usual...

Engravers often see to use V-bits - see www.bitsbits.net for examples, prices and probably some technical info. You could also try the New Hermes web site - they probably sell bits as well.

1/8" shanks see to be more typical thatn 5/16" from what little I've seen.

Newsgroups are not created by or managed by Google - they only provide a (poor) interface by which to view the threads contained therein. Google doesn't care how much crap people post so long as the ads generate some revenue. See this for some background on what newsgroups are and how they work: htt...

Ronald,

rec.crafts.metalworking is a newsgroup and an unmoderated one at that. No one is in charge of it and anyone is free to post whatever they like. That sucks but it's the nature of the Internet.
