Re: Dealing with Mill Scale
I use Hot Rolled Steel on most of my projects. I just clamp it up in the Shaper vise, set the depth of cut to about .035", feed rate of about 20 thou., Medium speed and turn it on and forget it. Tool contacts from the edge where the scale is already gone and flakes the rest of it out of its way...

I am constantly amazed at your skill! You are living proof that you do not have to have a large industrial grade machine in order to make perfect parts!! Congratulations and GOOD LUCK!!

Make a couple of "witness" marks with a center punch or cold chisel to relocate it properly.

Re: machine a weld
If you have access to a Shaper, this would be a piece of cake with a HSS tool bit ground to the desired radius.

Re: Bending Inconel Tubing for Radiant Superheater
I've never tried it with Inconel, but Salt packed into a Copper tube and the ends plugged can be bent around a mandrel and the Salt dissolved afterwards in hot Water. Good luck and please let us know the outcome.

Re: Ruger Type I pistol jector problem
I think that you are on the right track in trying to alter the Extractor instead of jumping in on the bolt face. Every semi-auto .22 I have ever fooled with had a little slop in the bolt face but as long as the "hook" can fully engage the rim, you will be O.K.

Re: my project
I know exactly how you feel. I had my buddy "Ears" for about 18 years. I missed him so much that I bought a Dachshund puppy a few months later. A new puppy sure does make a difference----!

Re: Ruger Type I pistol jector problem
I would suspect that the extractor hook is worn, like has already been noted. Give it a good cleaning, especially the bolt face and the recess where the extractor and its plunger and spring are located before investing in a new bolt. Also make sure that the ammo is not dirty. Good luck and please ke...
