Re: Metal Treatment

You can make that rust brown a number of different ways. I've read that one way an old gunmaker browned his barrels was by urinating on them regularly. He had a rack outside the back door of his shop.

Re: endmill holders with metric draw thread

I needed a drawbar last month. I had a long bolt with the wrong thread, and a short boolt with the right (metric) thread. I cut the threads off both bolts. But my torch was out of gas, as was the Mig, and I need to join the long bolt shank to the metric thread piece. So I tried friction welding. Chu...

Re: Resurfacing Disc Brake Rotors

Thanks for posting this. There was a similar thread recently (perhaps on another forum) about using a lathe for this. I have determined (and most agreed) that the lathe should be a purpose-built brake lathe to get the right result. But thinking about this later I considered doing it on the mill as y...

Re: Small Mill question

That Grizzly model is the Seig X3. Google that and you will get LOTS of good hits. Basically, it's a minimill on steroids, and a very solid machine. It's big enough you will need a hoist to move it. There are a lot of people CNCing them also, so if you later decide to try that out, there is a well-w...

Re: Squirrels and aluminum rail

Many people suggest electrification, but since the track is on the ground, no one has been able to explain how we keep the current from going to earth. I don't see a problem here. With a low voltage DC source (12V battery) to the rail, and the other pole to the screen, with an insulator backing if ...

Re: Squirrels and aluminum rail

Lay a strip of aluminum screen wire alongside the rail where this is happening. Clip 12V battery leads to the rail and to the screen. Hope they don't start chewing the batter leads ;) A friend once used a variation of this to stop a cat peeing on his chrome wheels. Only it was 110V  Problem s...
