Re: Are there any 4-3/4" ga. tracks in Michigan?
I was surprised to learn that unlike NJLS, PLS and other northeast (and west coast) clubs, the interior clubs of the Country are predominantly just have one gauge. I wanted to pass all this stuff on to my grandsons who live in Michigan...that's a little disappointing too.

Re: Are there any 4-3/4" ga. tracks in Michigan?
Jim, my daughter has been after me to relocate to Michigan especially since my wife passed away. I made a commitment to the live steam hobby in 1" scale and would be reluctant to have to give it up if I was to relocate. It is certainly not my only consideration regarding relocation but it is ho...

Are there any 4-3/4" ga. tracks in Michigan?
I checked the Discover Live Steam club roster and there doesn't appear to be any 4-3/4" ga. tracks in Michigan. Does anyone know of a 4-3/4" ga. track anywhere in the State? Thanks.

Re: Maxitrak Electric Locomotive Battery Recommendations
Mike, that's the same size battery that's in my Congress. I think the engine is a British style so it looks a little out of place here in the States. I Have a 5 lb lead weight in addition to the battery in mine to get more weight on the wheels for better traction, for a small engine it runs and pull...

Re: Copper Tender
0.050" is much thicker than the material that I have. I've been kicking around the idea of making a replacement tender for my 1" scale 0-4-0 but I think the 0.020 copper flashing that I have will be too thin even if I add stiffeners. Thanks for the quick reply. John

Re: Copper Tender
Just curious, do you have a thickness on the copper sheet that was used?

Re: Phosphor copper welding rods
BDD,I'm making the frame for Kozo's Hiesler in 1" scale. Rather than use brass bars for the frame, as he did, I used cold rolled steel but still intended to silver solder the joints, however, the fit was not tight enough so I MIG welded them and ground the welds flat before applying the gusset ...

Phosphor copper welding rods
Can phosphor copper stick welding rods be used to join mild steel, in other words, can it be a substitute for torch brazing?

Re: Casting sand
Lazz, I've been complaining about the very poor finish on my castings for years, due to the worn out casting sand that I kept using. From over 20 years of use and mulling the sand grains were rounded and full of clay and dust balls that wouldn't compact. The finish on my last two pours were so bad t...
