Bill,

That would only be a 54 amp service.

12KW/220V=54A (in round numbers) You probably have 100 150A service where you are now.

Re: New Guy Checking In

Got a new in the box Atlas lathe I picked up about 30-35 years ago, when I was still in the Army and had a bit of spare money. Theo Hello Theo, Welcome to the Forum! Hey, you didn't happen to pick up a Monarch 10EE around the same time did you? :D I'll bet there are people here that dream of findin...

Almost all tools are a compromise of geometry. Harold Exactly! I'm kind of a "show me" guy, so I'm pressing on. I'll be making chips after about 1 1/2 hours total, so why not give it a try? Not to mention the fact that I enjoy exploring different methods. http://img.photobucket.com/albums...

websterz,

Don't get discouraged!

You brought a very interresting tool to light with this thread and did a nice job of making it. It may not be everyone's "cup of tea" but you never know how many lurkers may find it helpful for their particular situation as you did.

Hello Mark,

How is the Turn Pro/Birmingham working out for you?

I briefly looked at them in 14/40 when lathe shopping a couple of years ago and opted for something else.

Re: Table size

My 12" is about right in terms of being large enough and not so heavy that I cannot lift it. I'm with Bill on that one. Only use mine a few times a year, but it sure is nice to have room to clamp things properly and not be too limited on the part size as well. Nothing say that you can't bolt a...

This looks like the answer for finish turning/facing with HSS using a QCTP as the tool post can remain square to the spindle axis. Thank You!!! That is not a benefit restricted to a tangential tool------I used to use that very method routinely with conventional tooling. I still would if I was engag...

I'm not suggesting it won't cut, but I am suggesting that it wouldn't hold a candle to negative rake carbide, which is a favorite of mine for roughing. As much as I promote the use of HSS, I know when it's time to move to bigger and better things. Harold Harold, I wasn't really considering it to be...

Isn't this where it all started

Heh! I should say so! They are also not suited for use in indexing turrets, which would be a deal killer for me. Harold Harold Darn.........I thought I had found the perfect Christmas gift for you!! I decided to make one and got about an hour into it before I had to quit. Used some pre hard 4...

Harold
It does have both side and back rake due to the compound angle that the tool bit is ground to!
