Re: Panhead rebuild project...

l missed the scale on that, looking at them next to the keys I see what you mean. I hate when things like that show up, almost as bad as launching an unforeseen spring across the shop never to be seen again!

Re: Panhead rebuild project...

And the problem that I don't know what it is? The two woodruff keys are from the oil pump. The small broken shaft I found on the bench after pulling the oil pump off, but have not figured out where it goes in the motor yet. If anyone knows I would be interested in your opinion. I am going to meet w...

Re: Panhead rebuild project...

Well maybe it's a good thing you don't see anything obvious (read destroyed) and it ends up maybe bringing all the clearances back into spec. like the roller bearings/races, wrist pins/bushings, piston to cylinder fit, etc.

Re: Panhead rebuild project...

Do you have a Harley service manual for the year range of the engine? If no I think I can dig up and send you a PDF version. I have repaired the cam covers you have for the same reason. The screws are countersunk and I think people over tighten them, eventually the cover cracks. I have the plater st...

Re: Panhead rebuild project...

I'm no expert either. I have someone around here that has the tools, knowledge and does good work on these while being reasonable. Here is a link to a frame plan with dimensions that you may find useful: http://www.shovelhead.us/pics/sheets/1948-frame.pdf I had this printed a large size to make it e...

Re: Panhead rebuild project...

Let us know what you find. Looks like you have a later style oil pump. I have a 1967 Shovel Head, bottom end is the same I believe. I plan to split the cases and have the bottom end gone thru. I'm told years back some would run the 2 lighter sides of the flywheels, quicker revs-rpms at a loss of tor...

Re: New welders

Both are good machines. I have the twin to the Lincoln bought new over 30 years ago. Welded tons of aluminum with it along with steels, stainless, copper, brass, and iron. Still going never had any problem with the machine, use it almost daily. Only thing I ever did was to add the auxiliary 120V out...

Re: Lincoln Electric WELD-PAK 100

Are you talking about the one you are interested in or a you tube video? May have looked rigged up because sometimes they will put the gas cylinder close enough and hook it up. It's better to have some sort of cart to have the welder on an secure the cylinder. The welders that use gas have a fitting...

Re: Lincoln Electric WELD-PAK 100

If it's gasless only (i.e. fluxcore wire) I would pass. Not that flux wire doesn't work but one of the nice things about plain wire and shielding gas is that there is no flux to clean after welding. On sheet metal flux core is nasty, messy, and hard to get the heat dialed in with that 110 machine be...

Re: Home Brew Bridgeport Way Oil Gun

I guess some of these are better than others for way oil. The one on the right came from a discount auto parts store and after doing the usual modifications it didn't pump the way oil very well. The gun on the left came from McMaster-Carr. Still a cheap grease gun and almost the same as the 1st one ...
