Re: filler and paint

Not the automotive paint store. I don't know what your close to, Sherwin Williams should be good, Benjamin Moore, Pittsburgh, PPG, etc. Look into their industrial paints. I know Benjamin Moore had some good products. You may be able to smooth them out with just primer and some sanding. BM has a &quo...

Re: filler and paint

The rust came back after your previous painting because it was still there. Blasting should take care of that. Your choices for repainting come down to what's practical for you. I use automotive materials, epoxy/urethane, etc. and have the equipment to spray so I don't have any specific paint recomm...

Re: filler and paint

Your photo didn't show up. Do you know what gauge the sheet metal is. Sounds like the radiators that were in the house I grew up in, hot water heat, built around 1950-52. A post war boom cape.

Re: Filler for cast iron

I've been thinking about using fiberglass resin. Are you familiar with "Feather Fill" A resin based high fill, surfacer/primer. Nothing sands easier. I use Evercoat's "Slick Sand", and it fills and sands great. "Slick Sand" Vs "Feather Fill" not sure how much...

Re: Filler for cast iron

JB weld would be much harder to sand out than Bondo (polyester body filler). I suspect Paula used JB for it's toughness and better adhesive qualities. An alternative would be polyester glaze. It is used as a final filler in auto body for imperfections, deep scratches, etc. and is smoother and easier...

Re: Panhead rebuild project...

Nice bike. I'll put my bet on the knock coming from the rod pin/ roller bearings at the bottom of the rods. I could be wrong. If I remember it right that pin gets oiled through the pinion shaft at the cam cover once every 360 degrees of rotation. Back in that era lots of the necks were cut, raked ou...

Re: Dykem going clear

I switched from blue Dykem to red for the same reason of it fading in the can. The red seems to be holding it's color better.

Re: Craigslist Strikes: $450 Lincoln Idealarc 250/250

On the one I have the input amperage is marked on the back of the machine at 70amps. On a 70amp breaker it would occasionally trip off when starting a TIG arc even in a mid range output despite the fact that while welding the current draw was around 20 amps. My statement to hook these machines up to...

Re: Craigslist Strikes: $450 Lincoln Idealarc 250/250

I have the same machine, bought it new in 1984 or85. They are great if working. The one in the ad looks like it had a hard life. It will not run on 60amp, needs 100amp. It has a strange (expensive) power cord that you may have to replace. No foot pedal for TIG and the cord is cut off the panel conne...

Cerakote finish

Been using Cerakote to refinish and really like the results. I just did my Sig P238 that was an early two tone stainless and black model, before they added all the numerous variations. It had plenty of holster wear and I was never crazy about the two tone. All graphite black oven cure and some new G...

Re: How To Turn Styrofoam, Into Solid Aluminum (VERY COOL)

Sure made it look easy. I watched another video where he built the furnice (name?) to melt the metal.
Made that look simple but I know there is more to it. I wonder what sort of aluminum alloy comes from those soda cans? I would like to try some casting sometime.

Re: Am I crazy? Shipping a lathe from Oakland to Tampa?

Why would it be crazy? Sounds like you know the machines and what you would be getting as opposed to buying from strangers on their word.
Value of the machines? - I have no clue. Cost to ship? No Idea. What's the used market like where you are?
