Re: Newbie getting in over my head?
Can you widen your search area? I had (have) the same problem, very few machines available in my area and when they are the prices are no fun. I bought my lathe 1,500 miles from where I live, and my milling machine 900 miles. Here's a really radical thought... what about Mexico? The Mexican's come ...

Re: Toyo ML 210 lathe
On that little lathe it very well maybe they use a drill style chuck on the head stock. I know Atlas lathes could be had with a drill style chuck setup to mount on the HS spindle threads ! Anyway where there is a will there IS a way!

Re: Toyo ML 210 lathe
That is a drill chuck key! Go to MSC and look around . I have found some of the import drill chucks use a non standard key, most chucks use a Jacobs std. style key. Being that is one of those import, dare I say toy lathes, who knows what standard they used.

Re: Shim a Mill Vise Flat?
You can not make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I have yet to see any import vise that is worth a dang. The ONLY good used vise I ever had was a Kurt. One of the worst was Brigdeport! Try shimming ! You do not have much to lose !! You might look into a tool maker's style vise like the 3" I re...
