triple header

Willy - Later in the day we were looking for riders on a triple header. I was surprised to learn you had left early. Photos show Dan on "Baby", Dick on the Camelback (purchased from me at the meet) and my son Will running our Shay. They made many passes around the WCRR. A great turnout for...

water tank

Mike- I used 1/8" sheet PVC. Also 1/8" thick angle. It can be bandsawed directly. Use a file to clean up the edge. Edges don't need to be perfectly straight where they are covered by the pvc angle. I have a guide on my bandsaw that makes straight cuts. It cuts very easily. This is not like...

water tank

Here's a photo of the water tank before the aluminum tender shell was put on.

Far easier to work with than wood.

water tank

Mike- After going through the same search I made a similar size water tank from pvc sheet, pvc angle and pvc glue. Very easy to work with. McMaster-Carr and MSC both carry pvc material. PVC rod was used to make bushings to attach to the bottom of the tank for drains, etc. The pvc bushing can be tapp...

Fred: thanks for the compliment.

I have dummy units available now. I am still refining the design of the working units. Anyone who buys a dummy unit can later have it upgraded to a working unit for the difference in price.

Jeff: They are 1.5" scale.

The turbo Doug is asking about appears to be a LocoLight.

I have Pyle-National Model E units available.

John- I have a 1-1/2" scale Shay that runs on propane using LocoParts burners. They work very well. I had initially built a set of Marty burners but didn't like how they worked. The LocoParts burners run on 1/2 to about 3 psi in my application. Blower is always on. Low when steam demand is low,...

Re: stud spacing

I think that the studs will be close enough together to seal allright. You may want to investigate Loc-Tite "Ultra Copper" sealant as it has a temperature range of -75 to 600 F. Last time I tried to find any Litharge, I could not locate any due to it being a Lead compound. I would not use...

Re: Live Steam Parts Co

I just installed my second lubricator from Live Steam Parts Company. Both of them work fine and were easy to install. Items were in stock and shipped immediately. Highly recommended.

No connection other than being a satisfied customer.
