Re: Electric Switch - Door Lock Actuators

Rich:

Steve Vitkovitz wrote an article on linear turnout actuators that his club is using. It was just published in the September-October 2015 issue of LSOR describing what they used and their results. Let me know if you cannot get ahold of a copy.

Re: Neutering the Burner

Grant...nice job on the troubleshooting! Your explanations of the trials and errors goes a long way in helping others to understand some of the intricacies of oil burner designs and combustion issues. How about writing up a report for the magazine??? Oh, and some photos would help too. :)

Re: Machinery's Handbook

I agree with Cary and Mike. I have 21st and 24th editions and use 21 nearly exclusively. The most used pages have little strips of post-it note paper for a quicker reference. if you're into machinery manufacturing as a profession, it makes sense to acquire the latest edition. For most of our hobby a...

JJG:
Thank you for digging up the answer to John's original post. You've settled a question in my mind about the design of the wheelset that was puzzling...an inside safety frame makes much more sense to me. That's my lesson for today!

Thank you for taking the time to make a positive remark about one of the suppliers to the live steam hobby. I'm certain that Jeff (and Dick) will be as tickled to read your comments as I was to hear they have done a good job for you!

Re: European truck identification

IMHO, I can't imagine that design being acceptable for commercial railroad usage as it appears any main spring failure would result in derailment.

Re: Air Pressure Switch

Brian: I hooked up a water pressure switch from our local plumbing house. My compressor is an old Cadillac air ride unit that peaks at about 85psi. I've set the thing to turn on at 55psi and off at 80psi to keep the pump from continually running. The system was hooked up last summer, so I don't have...

Re: Balancing engine

Bill: Adding strategic weight to the flywheel will increase its inertia, which is what a flywheel is supposed to do (good for smaller engines). Conversely, removing stock will reduce inertia. On the other hand, a lighter flywheel gets up to speed (and slows)quicker. Those values are probably not mea...

Re: Machining a Globe Valve - PM Research kit

Bill:

Thank you for taking the time to film, photograph, and explain your adventure with machining the PM Research globe valves. I do believe you've alleviated some of the anxiety of taking on the project.

Good job!
