Re: Selecting a propane torch

Frank, I have a torch similar to the Prest-O-Lite. I'm shopping around for a source of bigger tips. It only had one when I picked it up at an auction and it is too small for most work. Not to de-rail the thread, but it was an interesting auction. Sets of tools and equipment had been broken up and sc...

Re: Selecting a propane torch

First off, Fred, I apologize for not providing more information. I have a copper boiler kit and it is going to require some serious BTUs, but nothing in comparison to another project I have in mind. It involves 6-inch dia. copper pipe. Besides needing a sizeable torch, I suspect I’ll need supplement...

Selecting a propane torch

I am in search of some information and advice. I need to get a good high-BTU propane torch for silver soldering. My hand-held canister types are too small, so I've made-do by courting oxy-acetylene disaster. It's just too hot. 1) Does anyone know of a Sievert dealer in the USA? I'd buy Sievert equip...

Re: Rivet Squeezer

If the screw was higher up the tool could not reach into close quarters.

Slitting saw question

Recently, during one of these on line discussions someone said that slitting saws should only have two teeth in the cut (the material). First of all, is this so? Secondly, if it is so, what are the whys and wherefores? I'm self-taught, so there's a whole bunch I don't know about slitting saw usage. ...

Re: tap and die set

In the past I've advised folks to do exactly what you've done: Buy good taps and dies as you need them. The sticker shock isn't so bad, that way. Years ago I bought a small Craftsman set, just for odd jobs. The "Kromedge" taps did not have keen cutting edges and they took a great deal of t...

Re: A DuMore toolpost grinder question

I'll look to see if I can find the McMaster-Carr invoice from my order. It will have the catalog numbers you need. I always save that sort of thing, but cannot always find it in my files when I need it.

Thank you, all! I'm very grateful for the assistance, especially the My Hobby Store link. I'm as many collecting vertical boiler drawings as I can find before deciding on a design. Thank you for reminding me of McMaster-Carr. I've ordered from them many times and am a very satisfied customer. My ol'...

Looking for products from alternate suppliers

Seeing as how my Sulphur Springs Steam Models shopping list is worthless, does anyone know where I might get these items that were on it? FIBER PAPER: The same asbestos free Refractory Ceramic fiber but in a "paper" sheet 1/8" thick, compressible to less than 1/32" thickness. Sam...

Sulphur Springs Steam Models

Does anyone know why the Eatons at Sulphur Springs are not answering their telephone or responding to e-mails?

If this is a duplicate post, please excuse the mistake. I tried posting this before but a black hole must have swallowed it.
