Re: use no two for a live center on my drill press

Using a centre lined up with the drill is also a great technique for gunsmiths wishing to put a long hole through a stock and have it perfectly aligned at both sides - drilling halfway from each end with an undersize drill then finishing with the required size will get you perfectly aligned holes th...

Geez, after reading some of these posts we'd still be back in the stone age if it weren't for investors, R&D, trial and error, companies like Coates etc. etc. Seems to me (I may be wrong) it wasn't to long ago that overhead cam engines were more of a rarity but now it's the pushrod engine. It d...

Re: Is it possible to 'bore' a disc?

Nick--Can you explain a little more? I don't get the mental picture yet. Imagine you have a boring head in a vertical mill with a cutter pointing inwards set to cut a 1/2 inch OD. Then set a 1/2 round bar in a dividing head, tilt the head up at, for instance, 45 degrees. You now have a cylindrical ...

Re: Is it possible to 'bore' a disc?

You can use a boring head with a reversed tool in a mill along with an angled dividing head to cut a ball on the end of a workpiece,

In the 70's or 80's a major manufacturer spent a fortune trying to develop hydraulic steering for hub center steered motorcycles. Any elasticity in the system resulted in uncontrollable oscillation under certain circumstances so opposed master & slave cylinders were used, then expansion of the f...
