Re: New 3/4" Scale Track - Part 1
Frank, Thanks Frank! Here's a picture of the engine being steamed up at the unsuccessful run: IMG_0301.jpg Engine Info: Pennsylvania Railroad G.5.s Const. started 1992 while in high school (oof, that made me feel old) First run in 1995 Cylinders are from Little Engines Drivers and engine truck wheel...

Re: New 3/4" Scale Track - Part 1
Apparently, the plastic ties “shrunk” after fastening the rails, so the gauge was too tight. I ended up spending the last 3 weeks regauging the whole track, which was not fun. If you adjust them now, aren't you concerned that they might expand when it gets warmer and throw the gauge out again? Ben,...

Thanks Jack! It's a private track in my backyard. Everyone in our "neighborhood" has at least 2 acres. It's an easy way for the farmers to partition their land without having to rezone it.

Re: New 3/4" Scale Track - Part 1
Thanks for the compliment guys! It's been a long 3 years in the making.
Steve, you're welcome to come anytime!
Anyone with 3/4" scale, or 3.5" gauge is welcome if you're in the area, just check to make sure I'm around.

New 3/4" Scale Track - Part 1
Saturday was the first successful run at the Springfield, Evansville, and St. Louis Railroad. I say successful, because the first run didn’t go so well. The engine kept derailing in a lot of places. Apparently, the plastic ties “shrunk” after fastening the rails, so the gauge was too tight. I ended ...

Re: 3/4 inch scale Challenger
I've run straddle riding on tracks without the anti-tipping rail with only minor problems. The "biggest problem" is that passengers don't understand the concept that you can't step up onto the foot rests like it's a step on a ladder. Obviously, you can't hop off like you can riding side sa...

Re: Anyone here go to high lines all over the country?
Illinois Live Steamers has a highline for 3/4" and G-gauge. Whenever I make it, there's only a couple of us running. It's a nice track, I'd definitely recommend it. Iowa Society of Model Engineers has a highline for 1" and 3/4" scale. I haven't been up there since they relocated from ...

Re: 3/4" scale rolling stock and trucks
I've done a variety of things. 1. I've fabricated my own. Turned out okay, but not too detailed and you can tell they were fabricated. 2. Had someone cast Bettendorf truck sides in aluminum. I lost the pattern for those, and the guy who made the pattern passed away. 3. I've purchased the trucks from...

Re: Wilbur Wright articulated locomotive
Mike, It belongs to another live steamer in Central Illinois. PM me, I'm not sure he wants his name broadcast. As a note, while he no longer owns the engine, Wil is still with us. He just celebrated his 103rd birthday. He's still going strong and is still active helping others with their steam relat...

Lighting for 3/4" Scale Steam Locomotives
I'm working on detailing my 3/4" scale PRR K4s, and was wondering what others do for wiring the headlight. I was planning on grounding the bulb to the headlight frame/loco frame, and then run the "hot" wire through the handrail. Unfortunately, when I did this on my 3/4" scale PRR...
