Re: Facing Speed Question
I wondered how the 60* dead center is supposed to fit, exactly. Is the work piece supported by the tip of the dead center, or is the work piece supported by the circumference of the drilled hole resting upon the 60* circumference of the dead center? --Bill Here is a drawing of a center drill. If yo...

Re: Patio's projects
Here are some pictures for you viewing pleasure. This is the dead center I made a couple of weeks ago. It was a trial of setting up and cutting, using the taper attachment on the lathe. IMAG0337.jpg This is a picture of the V blocks I bought off of Craigs List. They did not come with the bar that ho...

Re: Patio's projects
I am still alive and kicking, and have been in the shop briefly in the last few weeks. I have had a cold for two weeks, but feel much better at the moment. I made a dead center out of some 12l14, just for practice, a couple of weeks ago. I am pretty sure that the material is to soft for practical pu...

Re: Help Design My First Cut
Hi Seal Killer. I have owned my lathe for 14 months now, and posting here for the same amount of time. You were the first to welcome me here. I knew nothing about machining before then. The first thing I turned was a piece of, cold rolled round stock, bought at the local supply store. I just started...

Re: Wireing into duck work
The only cable that is allowed, by code, to be run inside of a duct, must be plenum rated, or one must run a conduit through the duct for the cable. The reasoning is that if the wire were to catch fire, it would not be spread by the air. Here is a link I found for cable. I know nothing about this pa...

Re: Fabricating a backing plate for a chuck
Hi Allen I am one of the new guys here, but this is what understand. You should make a copy of your threaded spindle, including the distance to the shoulder, for a test plug. Once you have that, as you make the backing plate, you can use the plug to test the fit. That way you don't have to remove th...

Re: Something to worry about
Harold I believe you are right. I my self have spelled it wrong. I think it is a product of improper enunciation, when spoken, that leads to, improper, phonetic spelling.
Just my thoughts on it.
