Re: New member, with lathe motor problem.
Type YL90-L4 Too bad you are not close to me as I have that exact motor sitting in my storage shed and you could have it for free! I took it off my 12X36 lathe when I changed it to CNC. It would cost more to ship it to you in Canada than the motor is worth and I have no way to crate it up. If you w...

Re: Hobbyist Hardness scale
Has anyone found a company that will take a fee then try to provide actual service for that fee? This can turn into a real can of worms! There are companies out there, usually local, that can do this sort of support. Some actually know what they are doing and some just think they know and are able ...

Re: Language on the forum
Not everything said or spouted from the mouths of men require me to form a response. Sometimes silence says more than 10,000 words!Totally entrapment to bring up O'Connor on a forum where you can't discuss politics.

Re: G0678 CNC Conversion Build Log
I guess it might be worth mentioning to anyone who is interested in this project that I did a more detailed build log on the Centroid Acorn forum. CNC does not seem to have all that much interest here on The Home Machinist forum so I try to respect that and post where the main interest lies. I love ...

Re: G0678 CNC Conversion Build Log
BC, I'd love to tell ya'all that I've been busy making parts but it just aint so! Just about the time I got this machine running I discovered I had moisture in my finished basement. So I'm in overdrive trying to get to the cause and find a solution before it ruins some very nice custom built c...

Re: Hobbyist Hardness scale
From Earlgo: How about "harder than trying to get rid of the #$*@@! popup that claims to be MS support and your computer is infected, etc, etc". Does one of you computer gurus have a solution? Happily never happens on this forum. These happen to me when I am in my AT&T mail system. The...

Re: G0678 CNC Conversion Build Log
I gathered up all the courage I could find and I made my first actual part: This plate mounts over the left servo motor and will hold TTS tool holders. It came out just like I drew it. What a concept! :D 0326181132 (2).jpg I also made a couple of short videos of the run! https://youtu.be/6ag1OWwQmik...

Test Run:

Not much of a part but it shows how I set tools without having to have a lot of Z travel. This method is pretty much fool proof and I can use tools as long or short as I need.

Re: Threading without the end groove
I actually remember it by looking at the way it approaches the part to make the cut. From the right is a right handed tool. (even though you are moving left to make the cut) I wasn't asking about how to hand a tool, I was asking for clarity so other readers would not be confused. Harold did a great ...

Re: Threading without the end groove
I'm making reference to the side near the chuck, which, when held according to the method used to hand a cutter, is the right side. I probably should have made that clear. Thanks for posting the explanation so the newer members aren't confused. The tool hand thing is a bit confusing at first. Dave C.

Re: Threading without the end groove
Make sure there's enough clearance on the right hand side of the tool to achieve full depth without bumping the shoulder. I grind my threading tools offset, for that reason. Harold, did you mean right side? If I am threading toward the chuck I'd want my tool offset with the tip more toward the chuc...
