Would the answer to your quiz, be a DC motor?
It can be run in either direction, slowed, and stopped while under load. Also old technology.

Re: DTI Mounting Advice (Or, Nothing's Ever Easy)
I don't mean to Hijack this thread, but. :) I faced a piece of flat stock today. I have .004 in 2.5" when reading from the center toward the back side of my lathe. I have only preformed this test once now, and will take another cut with a newly ground tool later, to verify my findings. How bad ...

Re: Giant Metal
I am no expert on motors and controls, but I know a little. The more you load a motor the more current it will draw. A motor has a "Full Load Current" rating. A motor also has a "Locked Rotor Current" rating. The full load rating is what a motor will draw, while running under ful...

Happy New Years to you and yours...
I hope this and every year, is better than you last. I am grateful to each of you for the help you have given me, in my education into machine work. Even those of you whom know nothing, but are not afraid to ask, for each time you ask a question, I learn something, from the responses. I like to lear...

Here is my 12x21 Bike garage/shop. Shop2011.jpg The table in the middle shall soon have a bike on it for construction. There are actually most of 3 bikes in there at the moment. :) One is going to get built this winter. The other bike will get reassembled next winter. At least that is the plan at th...

Re: CNC desktop router/engraver, where to start ??
Hi Metal Mole I have a twin brother that is in the process of building a cnc router from scratch. Because it is just a hobby for him, he is starting small, building it of MDF, with plans to use it to make a larger and more rigid one in the future. His plans are to engrave and carve wood. I would lik...

Re: Analyze this cut for me
Is the cut the same width as the end mill? I am new too, but have read that it is better to cut a path under size, and then cut each side of said path, individually, to reach desired size. The reasoning is, that the flutes will not fight each other trying to hold a particular path. Or use a 3 flute ...
