Re: My N&W class A 1239 (gauge 5", 1 in 10 scale)
Hello modelers, Time to post some further progress regarding my project. During summer I worked outdoors whenever weather allowed. A lot of work to complete the back engine with brakes, trailer, lubricating system, and some more parts. Not to forget some hundred bolts and nuts. Before this could be ...

by Harold_V » Tue Dec 29, 2015 6:46 am Yep. There's something very nice about using stainless where corrosion is an issue. That's assuming one can keep chlorides away, anyway. Chlorine does not play well with stainless. Harold Yes, and please don't forget the high reflexion factor of SS which helps ...

Re: A champion is born.
Paul,
So many nice details done perfectly!
You're right - everybody is making parts slightly ore more different than others. Depends on tools, too.
I'm eager to follow your making of that power reverse your way!

Re: A champion is born.
Nice work all the way!
Please continue reporting your process of building that power reverse, for this is one of the next jobs to do for my A 1239, too. Thank you for posting!
Learning never ends by watching how other modelers are doing work on their way.

Re: My N&W class A 1239 (gauge 5", 1 in 10 scale)
Hello NP317,
Thank you for your kind recognition! Regarding the working hours: Not too a hard time yet but 3 to 4 hours per day, 6 days per week. My target is to achieve the first run under full steam next spring at a US-meeting. Thus time to relax will be later then ...

Re: My N&W class A 1239 (gauge 5", 1 in 10 scale)
Hello builders, Here are some more photos of making a detail, which might be of interest to others. For some of the bolts may not be inserted into the cylinder flanges as intended due to hidden steam chanels and other obstacles, one can set them into the covers as blind srews. Two missing bolts plac...

Re: Designing an oil Atomizer for a Vertical Boiler
This atomizing type of burner has already been made sucessfully in different sizes for 5" and 7.25" scale locomotives. Smokeless, adjustable and sucking the fuel from the tank.
Already been published more detailed in a former thread in this forum some time ago.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Has anyone done Three Cylinders?
Hey 318J, Three cylinder engines are not quite rare as you may think. There are a lot of European engines of different design and size. Back in 1987 I ran my first three cylinder decapod of the (here) famous DB class 44. Scale was 1 in 10 for gauge 5". No problem regarding the steam consumption...

Re: My N&W class A 1239 (gauge 5", 1 in 10 scale)
Hello friends, Having finished the front engine now, it could be moved back to it's right position. The locomotive as shown weighs in almost 600 pounds - without water and some parts still missing. As next step I will continue with the same procedure to the back engine including the trailer. The opt...

Re: My N&W class A 1239 (gauge 5", 1 in 10 scale)
Hello friends of the N&W steam, Time to post some more photos of the brake arrangements which are identical for both the front and back engine. There were two brake cylinders for each of the engines. This gave the opportunity to use both air and steam for braking. Cylinders are made identical ex...

Re: Another Superheater/Steam Dryer Question
Hello OSUMiner, You're right, but look: In case of low demand for steam to the engine (closed throttle) the draft will be low, too. If you are using the blower extensively there is a risk to overheat the elements, no question! There is little difference of placing the throttle upstream or downstream...
