being a compound, probably very quiet stack talk. The high pressure cylinders can't really be heard, then they are feeding the low pressure cylinders. so the exhaust pressure hitting the exhaust stand is way less on that than simple articulated or certainly traditional non articulated like a LE 4-8...

The problem that we have with the smaller fireboxes is that just getting the currently available coal to burn is a never ending problem. I hear my house with coal, and living on the edge of Amish communities, getting coal is not a problem. However the clinkers and slate that come with it, while man...

Personally, I like the challange of coal firing. I started with my first live steam engine at 14 years old and learned that maintaining the correct fire in the box was paramount to keeping the pressure up. Too much, too little, too deep here and too shallow there were all part of having a good day ...
