Re: Show us your milling machine!

Ok, you guys shamed me into cleaning mine up. :) I got it a couple months ago; it'd been the main mill for a machinist, but when the bushing in the head wore out, he bought a Lagun while waiting for the new part to be made (yeah, made). So it sat there a couple years. Then I bought it. It had a nice...

Thanks Richard.

Re: Please rate these spiders (pic heavy)

S. Turf, that's my plan too. I see that PT&G sells such rods.

Got a 300 WM that is accurate, but has a disaster of a chamber. I may rechamber that as my first project. Or rebarrel it. Also have a .223 that I want to rebarrel to a faster twist.

Ah, the joys of being a rifle loon! :)

Re: Please rate these spiders (pic heavy)

Howdy. Since they are essentially little 4-jaws, and since barrel bored are often not concentri to the barrel anyway, I don't think the TIR of these parts matters one bit (within reason). I think. :) My concern was that the outboard spider is very light and maybe somehow that'd be an issue. I haven'...

Please rate these spiders (pic heavy)

I bought a 12x36" Logan lathe that came out of a gun shop that was closing up. It had some crusty old tooling; much of it of indeterminate function so far. :) I'd like to do some chambering in this lathe in the fullness of time if it proves capable of that. So, I was very pleased to find spider...

Re:

Cpt Ordnance and Rob-- I am in about the same position as both of you: All of my work is small; anitique firearms, models, and a bunch of other small stuff. I also have to get the mill through the 30" wide basement door (walkout though, no steps) across the finished part, and into the back par...

Ah. Good point.

It's a Tiawanese 10x54" with a 3 HP motor; weighs about 3300 lbs if memory serves.

Re: Show us your milling machine!

Here's a couple pic's of mine: the rare, the legendary, MV54! Is a 3hp, 10x54" machine made in Tiawan and branded Amstar. Bought it with a known bad part in the VS head that I've since replaced. Currently running great. Very smooth and tight machine; I'm liking it so far. Here it is when I'd ju...

Good quality, reasonably priced R8 "inserts" face mill

Howdy again. In the maiden voyage of my new shop, one part I had to make a couple of was well-served by a face mill. I had one around that has brazed-on carbide cutters; it worked ok, but was throwing sparks by the end as it dulled. I'll sharpen it, probably, but for the next batch of these parts I'...

I think you guys are reinforcing my gut- which says I don't need a swivel base.
