Re: steam plumbing
OK: From the consorteum of replies received so far, this is what I have managed to piece together. Let me know if this makes sense or is fatally flawed and how to fix it. Thanks to all! -- Bill. boiler . turret (in steam dome) . cab end top fitting . cab end bottom fitting . drains (how many and whe...

Rolly:
I agree completely. But your water cooled grate is
not off the topic of steam plumbing, since it is
part of the convection loop.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: WAsn't there somebody asking about plows?
...Well I ordered one of the plows directly from Bob, which saves him the E-bay charges. Now he's only got one left, so if anyone wants one, get it now. He even offered to paint it for me. What a guy. I know for sure that I couldn't build one for $100. Besides, my welding looks like crap, especially...

Re: steam plumbing
Rolly: I did order the first book (today). I wanted that one anyway, but didn't know if it had any schematics for the entire steam system. I found your website most interesting because I am considering watertube (vs firetube) construction. But you won't be able to tell from the outside. Also, your w...

steam plumbing
Friends: Does anyone have or can anyone sketch out a schematic diagram of the steam plumbing for a locomotive? How do things like the sight glass, the pressure gauge, the throttle, the whistle, the brakes, the draft, etc connect to the boiler? Or, alternatively, does anyone know of a good publicatio...

Wave file for Locoparts Whistle
Friends:
I seem to recall a suggestion on the old BBS that
someone make a .wav file of the LocoParts 4 chime
whistle.
Does anyone know if this ever happened?
Thanks. -- Bill

Magnificent! Thanks for taking the time to post your
photos. I love construction photos. Plus, it isn't often
us folk up here in the states ever hear about what's
going on down in New South Wales. Let us know how
it goes.

Re: Dead steam question....
Hmmm: Sounds like the motor armature has some turns shorted. It won't keep the motor from running, but it will run hot . (take off the shell and see how hot it gets.) If this is the case, the motor shaft will expand and begin to fit the bushings tight and start squeaking. The extra current required ...
