Re: Running a live steamer "1930s style"
We just finished up our meet. We were delighted that a member of chaski drove nearly 2 hours just to meet us and to see the track, and, that it was his opportunity to run a "live steamer" for the first time. He appears to have the "bug" and be "hooked". I'll let him com...

Hello FKreider & group. Drawings are available. Castings will be produced as soon as the 3/4" K4, Friends' current "bring it back" project, is back online fully. The cored piston valve cylinders are (2018) back on the market for the first time in more than 50 years. Drive wheels a...

Re: Railroad Supply History
Here are a few pictures of the engines. Guy in the overalls is Tom Summers and the pictures were taken in the early 90's at Nicks first track he built in Nashua NH, which is still around today but in very very bad shape. The owners of the house really have not kept up the keeping. In your first pic...

Re: Running a live steamer "1930s style"
I suppose with a 100' run that brakes are a must? Or do you just lift the engine up off the track if it starts to get too fast? :D No brakes on the equipment that has run there so far, although my riding car does have brakes. Going one way, which is a downgrade, we just put it in reverse as you app...

Re: Running a live steamer "1930s style"
Was hoping you'd put another vid up. Looks like you're working on a switch now? Did you ever get the track to stop slowly walking toward the fence? Thanks for watching the video. Yes, a switch with siding (that will hold 2 locos and tenders) is in process. It will be ready for our fall meets. We al...

Cap with spike.jpg Jack, and all- Here is Carl Purinton's grandson "Cap", now about aged 70, driving the gold spike. He's the last "Purinton" involved in the hobby. The loco at left is "Jim Skeevers", which is described in the "Live Steam of Years Gone By" bo...
