Hydrostatic Lubricator Casting Source
Can anyone suggest a possible source, lost wax or otherwise, to make casting of the hydrostatic lubricator condenser as shown in the attached sketch? I'd like the casting to be brass and to be able to polish the "bulb" portion after machining is completed. Most dimensions are negotiable if...

30" 3-in-1 Metalworking Machine Base
Can anyone direct me to a supplier of good quality stands or bases, preferably with casters, for a 30" 3-in-1 sheet metalworking machine?
Thanks, Dave

Re: Draft plates
I believe I can shed some light on the draft plate also sometimes called a smoke box baffle. When an arch is fitted into a fire box the hot gases pass over the upper edge of the arch and along the upper surface of the fire box or crown sheet just as intended. However, with out the draft plate these ...

Re: Conical Boiler Casing
PS - I actually did the volume calculations for comparison between doing a tapered section and just a straight tube on a typical "wagon-top" boiler to determine how much volume would be lost. On the projects I had to hand that turned out to be a negligible percentage. This short-cut might...

Re: Conical Boiler Casing
Dave, I used this calculator for making my jacketing patterns. I then took all the numbers drew it in CAD and had templates printed Vic https://www.cmrp.com/cone-calculator Thanks for the calculator. But, it is for concentric diameters. I'm looking for a method for eccentric diameters where the out...

Re: 1/8"-56 Angle Globe valve
I'd like to compliment the Chaski chat room net work and thank the participants. What I thought was a long shot turned out to be a short shot and I have a valve in the mail on it's way to me.
Thank you all, Dave

Conical Boiler Casing
Can anyone provide or lead me to a concise yet SIMPLE method for laying out an eccentric cone like used on a boiler casing with conical coarse ahead of the fire box outer wrapper with the seam on the bottom or straight side? I'm stumped! I have a reprint of an early 1900s book on boiler making that ...

Re: 730 Old Boiler Dissection
I've been reading this thread with great interest since it's beginning. There have been several explanations that I found very enlightening. BUT, can anyone explain or suggest why by far the greatest amount of rust or deterioration is on the crown sheet whether on the steam or fire side? If it were ...

Re: To Turbulize or not
It occurred to me that measuring the effect of a turbulizer in a model boiler would actually be rather easy. First with out a turbulizer in a tube place a thermocouple in the inlet and outlet of a tube. Pick a easily repeatable operation mode and location and run the loco and read the inlet and outl...

Re: To Turbulize or not
these devices have been around a long time in industrial as well as residential boilers...and everyone has the 'best' idea, but the reality is you gotta play with it....or just take an idea and make it fit...you literally have nothing to lose http://cleanboiler.org/learn-about/boiler-efficiency-imp...
