Kap, I create a plane a few mm above the solid and create the test on that. I then "cut" the sketch on a surface that is .5mm below the top surface of the solid, this way my letter cut bottom is contoured the same as the top of the tag. It is very friendly cutting that way.

Re: Valve cover Badges
Thanks for the kind words guys. Michael, those gauges look very neat. Was that stick font from autocad? I have a program called deskengrave that does one line at a time. My freemill will only raster in x or y so no single line fonts for me just yet.

Re: NEW TO ME CNC MILL TMC 1000
Did my first "real" project with the cnc mill. I did some 3d cutting for a name plaque for my Mom's cat. I burried it a few days ago. The design was done in Solidworks and the 3d milling was done with a product called freemill from Rhino. Program was with a 3/16 ball cutter and a 0.02 step...

Re: NEW TO ME CNC MILL TMC 1000
Made some headway last night. Wired all of the motors and G540, mounted the motors on the machine and I was up and running. Made some test cuts with desk engrave staying under the 500 line limit. Only problem I had was my z axis was opposite. Quick search on google and I was able to find the switch ...

Re: NEW TO ME CNC MILL TMC 1000
Wow, i had not checked there for a whole new switch. PLC center had the contact I needed but a $25 min charge with another $10 in shipping for an $8 part. I had our local electrical supply quote and it came in at $83. That's crazy.

Re: NEW TO ME CNC MILL TMC 1000
Been working on stripping the old wiring harness from the mill. I isolated the dc spindle wiring and removed everyting else. The limit switches are all plug in so that was nice. I left all of the switches alone and will just test each one before I rewire to new control. I found that I needed a new c...

Re: NEW TO ME CNC MILL TMC 1000
The reason for the larger power supply is for future addition of the 4th axis motor. I want to make a 4th rotary axis eventually. The guy at Keling suggested that one for future expansion. G540 is good up to 50v. He does sell a package with that power supply a g540 and 4 motors. I am just not gettin...

Re: NEW TO ME CNC MILL TMC 1000
Not too good with 120v's so I tested the unit and found no power comming out of the transformer. There were missing fuses and fuse caps on the unit. After reading some more on that power supply I decided to purchase a PS from Keling with 48v 12.5A. I decided it was not worth messing up the g540. So ...
