Re: Lathe question
Osama lathes are supposed to be high quality made in Taiwan. They are a copy of the Mori Seiki lathes from Japan. If it looks good buy it.

Re: New lathe advise
Another thing that bothers me with these small lathes is they say 12" swing. Then go on to say the cross slide travel is 5.5". That means you can only face an 11" part. If you pull the gap and put an 18" diameter part in there, just how are you going to face to center in one pass...

Re: New lathe advise
I personaly don't like the gap bed lathes. Once taken out people don't take the time to put them back correctly. Re: Shops, Storage, Shipping Containers
There are container sellers that will modify them for you. They make nice hot dog stands. Any way I have a 40' container that's aluminum with a 9' celing. Re: hard steel turning
I have hard turned in engine lathes before. I use the black ceramic inserts. The 80 degree diamond shaped negative inserts (CNMG) are what I use the most. Generaly if you can hold a tolerance on regular work then you can hard turn. I run at 400 surface feet and .001" feed rate and watch the spa...

Re: vertical mill
Nice machine, although I would prefer a horizontal with the verticle attachment. If everything works it's a real buy.

Re: Diesel Fuel Filter Construction Question
I would say it worked in drawing 2. In drawing 1 the fuel wouldn't pass through the filtering material. So no particles are removed. Also the water may not go through the filter media due to the capilary action of the oil on the filter media. So no water removal either. I once knew a guy who would d...

Use cast iron. If you were closer I would give you a chunk.

Last one. The pictures don't look as well once they are posted. I could email better pictures if you are interested.
