Hi George What scale? I have had good luck with McMaster. The scale is 2.5" ... I will check the McMaster catalog. The double spring idea is interesting. For these cars, I am not sure what a loaded weight would be. I did find that the folks at Joshua Tree & Southern have two cars like this...

Spring hopes eternal ...

I am trying to start the construction of some western wheeled scraper side dump cars. The cars are 2 axle construction. The side frames have 2 springs for each journal box. So, I need to find some springs to use. I poked around my local home depot, but they no longer have a "spring" select...

Robert,

Those "brazen" I-beams look great. I think I will just go that route and skip trying to find small I-Beam stock ...

Thanks,
George

If you can get channel in 1 1/4" you can weld it back to back to make your own I-Beams? Yes it will warp a little but you can probably nudge it back into the world of straight and narrow? Just a thought..... This is my back up plan, but it will make the center a bit thick. If I go this route, ...

my best advice is to check alot of the scrap yards. second is hit the older ornemental iron shops. they used to have alot of odd sizes and shapes years ago. old machine or fabrication shops. and old ship yards as in the old days the smaller sizes where used alot on walkways and flooring. and take a...

How big are those I-beam type fence posts used in some cyclone fencing? They've got to be in that range, and cheap, too, Greg B. I had never heard of cyclone fencing ... poking around with Google, I cannot find an example of an i-beam post. Most of the web sites list chain link using schedule 40 pi...

Steve ... the hobby shop stuff is way too small. I need something that is 1.25" tall. Thanks for the thought though ...

Wanted: source for small steel I-Beams

I am looking to construct some western wheeled scraper side dump cars and the plans call from some small I-beams in the construction of the cars. I spent some time poking around with Google, but I could not find any metal suppliers that carried hot rolled I-beams. I need something that is 1.25"...

Inspectors definitely get in your firebox ...

Several years ago, I attended a state boiler inspection for traction engines held at the Urbana fairgrounds in Ohio. This was the first round of inspections after the Case 110 blew up at the Medina fairgrounds. The new state rules required each owner who wanted to operated in public to have their en...
