Re: Building a small loop around the house?
Okay, I'll take a stab at this post. (Mostly because I'm tired of hanging drywall ; ) To paraphrase a retired BNSF track engineer, the three most important elements in good track placement are #1 Drainage, 2# Drainage and #3 Drainage. I don't have a lot of experience setting up outdoor "ride on...

Re: Setting up a basement workshop (ideas wanted)
Also in the phase of planning out a modest shop layout. Having worked in many, having arranged several in a variety of settings from in garages, studio apartment bedrooms and basements, there ultimately is no "perfect" layout. Industry typically keeps the dirty end of things at one end... ...

Re: Museum of Obsolete Drafting Technology
Peeking back in on this thread to read what all the discussion is about. As the OP for the thread, it may not surprise the reader that I still hand draw most everything I'm working on. Why? Because it's a talent I have the ability to do. It's often therapeutic, does not require operating a keyboard,...

Re: Show us your ET (electric train)
Yes, “isolate” would have been a better word Bill. And yes, a little blower motor to circulate air would draw very little current on a bank of lead acid batteries. That’s a useful option to consider if there is even a reason to. In an effort to stay on message with -Show us your ET (electric train)-...

Re: Show us your ET (electric train)
That's a good comment Ken. "Insulate" may be a loose term meaning multiple things. Typically the monitoring of batteries centers on electrical measurements and in the case of lead acid storage batteries, checking specific gravity on a schedule. If readings are logged and one creates a &quo...

Re: Show us your ET (electric train)
Ironic this thread corresponds somewhat timely with recently published news regarding full-size railroad locomotives. A Google search related to Wabtec's FLXdrive locomotive brings up recent press releases etc. https://www.wabteccorp.com/locomotive/alternative-fuel-locomotives/flxdrive https://trn.t...

Re: RMI Crossing Gates
Hey Dave; As you may already know, the subject of signal foundations falls into one of the elusive subject matters seldom if ever discussed within the miniature railroading hobby. My research and observations along the way have formed the opinion that manufacturers of full-size signaling equipment a...

Re: The IBLS URL has expired and UNAVAILABLE
There is no product manufactured or service made available for purchase known as History. You have to build and maintain your very own. The IBLS site has been slowly trekking forward providing a navigable glimpse into our hobby passion and past. I especially like the feature of being able to downloa...

Re: Forum Board Statistics
It's me again. I'll re-state as gentlemanly and politely as possible that the original question was not intended as any form of insult toward any individual, moderator, or owner of the board. That would serve no purpose, especially for me who cares for a family miniature railroad legacy dating back ...
