Re: IS our hobby dying in Canada?

In our HS, the Industrial Arts teacher was a total moron. We had a fully equipped machine shop yet he knew nothing about machining. The shop was also fully equipped with wood working equipment but he wouldn't teach anything about woodworking. We had two girls in our class and he was more interested ...

Dave, If you are going to ALS this weekend, bring a set with you. I'll take a set.

You have to call them after 6pm eastern time and ask for Mike. The last time I was down there, he had the parts to make them.
Maybe he is busy on my Mikado parts. :D

Re: Cheap DROs: Any good?

I bought a set of cheap DRO's off Ebay. When I got it, it didn't have an outer case for the readout. Nothing was said about that in the listing. Oh well, they were cheap!

Re: Proof testing cable clamps

Induction heating is a whole different world.
Yes it is. You would be amazed at some of the things that I have seen involving induction furnaces and their power supplies.

Re: Proof testing cable clamps

Well Harold, it sounds like you are getting there. Is your lifting yoke on the furnace insulated? If it isn't, that will give you trouble. Also, on most of our furnaces, the rear most angle on the top of the furnace is aluminum, that cuts down on problems.

Re: Clearpath SDs

Well, you won't need the Gecko's, but as a side note, they will work directly with the Centroid Acorn boards. The Clearpath steppers will take the step and direction commands as well as the enable command. About the only thing that they give back is a fault signal and there is one programmable outpu...

Re: Clearpath SDs

I have looked at them in depth. What I didn't like about them was that there was not enough I/O for the CNC project that I had. They were very willing to help with the engineering for the project, so I will say that for them. In the end I went with the DMM Servos (Dynamic Motor Motion) and those wor...

Re: Investment Casting Costs

Try this foundry, as they do some good size brass and bronze castings. They cater to the small orders.

A year ago, I got hired for a full time maintenance job not because of my age but that I passed the drug test, security background check and almost 50 years of experience. I was actually shocked that I got hired even with my age!

Re: Bad Jokes

Years ago, I heard a story about a repair tech who died, but did not make it to heaven. While being shown around his eternal place of punishment, he was told that he would spend eternity in a state-of-the-art repair shop with every tool ever made, every part ever made, every piece of test gear avail...
