Boring Between Center on Lathe.... Guys, I am confused. Why does anyone ever bore cylinders on a lathe? If you are setting up a single point tool in the headstock of a lathe vs a single point tool in the mill head the result is the same right? I can indicate mill head where the lathe is kind take it...

A friend of mine made his by milling it down from round. Go to Daveley.net I think there is an explanation of how he did it there.

Does anyone know what material Art Olds used for his 2-8-0 boiler? Engine is now owned by Bill Bryan of Georgia. I Swear he once told me is was scrap drops that came off of some of the ships in Pensacola. It was something exotic.
Any ideas?

Steam Turret Question

I have seen people do the same thing on the mich cal shay also. That is tap appliances turret and throttle from this dome (one on top of the t boiler) Little bit of a fudge, but deffinately makes the build and maintenance easier.
