Re: Electric water pump install questions
Nothing wrong with using that pump to fill a boiler at pressure, I have personally used it on my 1.5" steam engines with no issues. It can pump 200 psi and up to 1.0 GPM. When done in pulses, it acts like a axle pump. Yes you will want a filter between the water tank and the pump to prevent deb...

Re: Brake regulator valve (Clippard MAR-1 operation)
You can purchase the MAR-1 valve from Tom Bee that has the modification to the lower pitch thread (see the link below). This gives full off to full on with ~270° of motion. If you just purchase the MAR-1 valve from Clippard, you need to turn the stem multiple times to apply or release pressure which...

Re: Little Engines Closed
Getting back on topic. I have seen many positive opportunities for the live steam hobby over the past 5 years with the amount of younger members utilizing the technological skills (such as 3D modeling) they learned in school or on the side to keep moving the hobby forward and come out with new or im...

Re: Franklin C-1 booster
Please help me out here. I agree that it is not reasonable for an order that has been paid in advance to be ignored. Was the original offering found on this board? If so, it needs to be removed. To that end, please provide a link so it can be found easily. We are not here to facilitate potential fr...

Re: Pop Valve location suggestions
Dale, a good idea would be to drill and tap the steam dome lid now to match the threads on the safeties and use pipe plugs to seal them off. Should you want to move the safeties for aesthetic reasons or for priming reasons when you are out running the engine, its far easier to remove plugs and swap ...

Re: Sprocket question and others
If you are using ball bearings (which I highly suggest) than no hardening of the axle is required. 1018 CR rod is a good material for an axle.
I wouldn't recommend using roller bearings and having to harden the axle.

Re: Sprocket question and others
Since RMI does not list their tolerances for the wheel, I echo what Bill said as you won't know until you receive the product. Go with "Undersized" material for the key stock as that will allow a slip fit between those parts. How do you plan to retain the wheels on the axle and hold the co...

Re: Mysterious 3-Way Valve
By vendor, I meant like Little Engines, Railroad Supply, or Superscale. I don't think those specific vendors offered this product as I cannot find it in their older catalogs. By person I meant someone like Jack B. (His brake valves are just gorgeous) Doesn't have a business name, just sells items on...

Re: Mysterious 3-Way Valve
That solves the question on where the design came from. The internals look exactly like the parts I have.
Was this design produced in miniature by a vendor or a person?

Mysterious 3-Way Valve
I have a 3-way valve that I cannot determine if it was a mass produced part, a published design, or a personal design. I have 2 valves, one is brand new and shown in the pictures below, the other has been installed on my 1½" Atlantic for over 30 years as the cylinder cocks valve. Looking to get...
