Re: Hydraulic leak

A big difference. I'd be tempted to chuck up that replacement and machine the face flat. That’s what I’d do, not to mention what I have done or had done in similar circumstances. Prescribed finish for any o-ring sealing surface is 32 RMS. That includes surfaces for square cut o-rings. They missed t...

Re: Hydraulic leak

Here's a pic of a Donaldson HMK05. Note the seal land is shiny. I've used 3 or 4 kazillion of these, and HMK25's, which are a double filter. That's how seal lands are supposed to look, but too many people are making things on the cheap these days.....sad to say Donaldson is included. HMK05, P166663....

Re: Hydraulic leak

Wow. They don't make 'em like they used to, sad to say. The new one is ugly too, but OK though, if it doesn't leak I suppose. Doesn't look like Donaldson stuff used to, that's for sure. It appears the new & old are from two different manufacturers, as there are obvious differences in the casting...

Re: Hydraulic leak

It's just a flat, not a groove. If you send Donaldson a picture, with a specific question, ie; 'Is this surface supposed to be so rough, because it leaks by the o-ring?', instead of a generalized question, you may stand a chance of getting some information from them. I don't know your location, but ...

Re: Hydraulic leak

You should contact the supplier you bought it from. A picture of the questionable surface would be a good idea. Or, you can ask the question to Donaldson. I'd give you a phone number, but all the folks I knew there have retired like me! ;) https://www.donaldson.com/en-us/contact/ I have no idea how ...

Re: Hydraulic leak

All of them should be faced where the o-ring contacts the head, but I can only tell you they were. They are now manufactured in Italy, and I haven’t dealt with any made there, so all bets are off.

The filters use a square cut o-ring, which would not seal well on a rough surface.

Re: Hydraulic leak

That's pretty normal, and I would expect it to be. Oil sloshing around and using anything hydraulic will do that.
If you have a lot of oil slobbering or spraying out of the breather, then there may be a problem. Several simple reasons for that.

Re: Hydraulic leak

If you over-pressure it, the filter will fail, not the head. They split vertically and horizontally on the can, up by the threaded end, when pressured over 375 psi. I know, because Donaldson made a bunch of them, that failed below the max working pressure some years ago. To prove their filters were ...

Re: toolbox drawer liner

I picked up a US Greneral roll-away at Horror Freight, for about half price, because it was missing the drawer liners, and the keys. So, I bought a few treadmill floor mats on sale at Walmart. I think they were about 3' x 5'. They are thicker than most 'real' drawer liners, and are oil proof, per th...

Re: The price of steel

I bought a bunch of 2" square tubing, 1/8" wall tubing last October. It was $61.73 per 20' stick. Gotta quote a couple weeks ago for the same stuff. $145.90 per 20' stick. I was told by my supplier, PDM, who covers several states in the west & pacific northwest, that prices have been g...

Disagree.
We all, at least most of us, cl;amp odd shaped pieces into a vise, or onto the table, to assault them with some tool in the mill. That's fact.
If a vise like that, cost $9.95....we would all have one. :)
