Re: 3 in 1 Smithy 1220XL machines

Well, after all this time on my Smithy CB1220XL and my issue with the carriage. I had a machine shop mill the casting (that was way to wide) down to fit the table Just for kicks he indicated the rear dovetail and found the Chinese had managed to mill it with a .007 belly in it? I honed this part for...

Re: about carbide brazing/silver soldering

A tip from John Carter of Carter Diamond tool Co. Silver solder is the best way to go, if you plan on keeping the tool shank. Silver solder takes less heat, and holds extremely securely. If the carbide breaks, just simple heat and silver solder another piece in its place without all the extreme heat...

It seems, that the unit had fallen off the truck, and was due back to the distributorship when it was dropped of...

Re: Splined Shaft for a Shopmaster or It's equivelent?

Hay Todd,
Looking at your part, I went out to my shop and looked at my Smithy gears, and the broken spline sure looks the same as the Smithy ones. It may be worth a call to Smithy, and talk to Tom Sorenson, or Dave Wiess. Both these gents are very knowledgable with this stuff.

Re: Milling Question

Hay Ted, I.ve got a Smithy, so in the same scenario, I've used a reverse, or left hand helix, which pushes the chips down and the slug also...IF you're not close to the table, or Rotary Table. When milling a long slot on material I will clamp both ends and poke a hole clost to the periphery of the c...

Re: source for oil cups

Hi Ray,
I am new to the forum, and even though your post is from 2003...if you still need an outlet for oil cups , anytime in the future, MSC has them in stock! O just ordered some for my lathe.
Hope it helps... Mom said, "better late than never."
