In the US OF A you can get anything you want, not so in N Z, anyway still trying to sort out some pic`s of what I`m doing. Lets see if this goes with a bang. PS,hey I got it guys, take pics strait from the camra, but the batterys went flat,so more to come, .357.

I just don`t beleve it, that`s realy doing it the hard way. By the way I have made from scratch a left handed hammer and action for this hawkins rifle with double set triggers, well I`m a south paw shooter. So all I have to do now is to hire a Oxy/Ace gas set and braze on the T/C tips for the gundri...

Hi Al, I think I will stick to the 1140,or 1137 stuff if I can get it here in NZ, but will try the 1045 as I have a length of it. In USA you guys can get anything but down here theres no octagoal steel I have found yet, so will keep on hunting.

Hi Guys, whats the best typ of steel for B/Powder barrels, I have some aisi 1045 , just down from 4140, it`s hard to cut. Bill Webb talks about 1140 as beening ease to cut but no good for high power rifles,would it be ok for B/Powder. Green Mountain barrels use 1137 I think. I like the 1140, ease to...

It`s no fun doing it the easy way, But first have to drill the hole, I`m making the gundrill , 4140 tube steel, turned down to size, drill tip, D2 steel hardend and T/C tip brazed on, ground to size and shape. this tip screws into the tube plus oil hole. Thanks Al. Trying to sort out what steel for blackpowder barrels, i have aisi 1045 ,could be a bit hard to cut as it is close to 4140. Hi , I think you are right in reading up more on lathe stuff, I got a lot of help from a book by L Sparey, The Amateur`s Lathe It`s full of good lathe working ideas, screwcutting, lathe hss cutting tools and lots more, you could get one at some online book shops.
