You pay a preimum for the SB name from Grizzly for a Chinese lathe ! My tool dealer friend sold several of grizzly's Shop Fox brand 12X36 Gunsmith lathes that I set up. They seemed to be decent .

Most of those lathes the thread plate also shows the feed in small numbers for when those settings are used with the feed rod.

Try with the VFD at 60H and the belt on the slowest driect drive. .040 is still .080 on the dia. And what tooling were you using? If negitive rake carbide that could be part of the issue,takes HP for heavier cuts. Also what was your feed rate ? Fast feed and deeper depth takes HP and torque !! Cutti...

Import Aloris style ,size AXA should do it. Do spend a bit more and get the "wedge" style as they do work better than the piston style.

Is this lathe new to you ? If so that may be the wrong part someone has installed. If you have owned it and this issue is something that just came up or has been getting worse that equals wear somewhere. But I can not conceve the gear missing the rack by 1/4 " due to wear . More info needed . A...
