Re: Gasket Cutting
Thanks for the advice everyone. I tried making some gaskets using the stainless ball method, however the web between the hole and the inside/outside edges of the gasket is very small and no matter how much care I put into it, the gasket material would snap. We are thinking about going to a laser cut...

Gasket Cutting
I need to get a bunch of gaskets made up. Anyone have suggestions for vendors they have worked with? Laser Cutting would probably be easiest here...
Thanks!

Re: Front end design
The cylinder block may have been a shared casting (between several different types of locomotives). As a result they probably created a offset blast nozzle casting (as mentioned above). Yes, probably due to superheaders, but if you have prints for the stack, the stack casting may have been offset to...

Re: VanBrocklin style duplex pump
Can this pump air? If so, could this be a reliable design for an air brake system?

Re: 1" Scale LE 0-4-0T
When I ran it a few years ago, the loco acquired its water from the riding car. As a result, there was a loss of probably 10-20 lbs of water that was usually in the tanks. I believe I spun it a few times but otherwise it steamed very well and ran well.

There has been a pending offer on this whistle, however I have yet to hear that payment has been sent for the whistle.
I will take other offers into consideration and act upon those after a reasonable timeframe has passed.
Thanks

Steam whistle help
Hi folks, I have an original Southern 3 chime top-lever whistle that I picked up for pennies a year or so ago... It is in great condition, save for one issue... A friend of mine had it mounted on a 2ft gauge steamer in SW Missouri, and while he wasnt there to witness it, the crew said it blew too mu...

Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4
Did you hollow out the Shapeways model? Remember that they charge by the cubic centimeter. I would recommend hollowing, perhaps maintaining a 1/8" wall (and have some internal ribs for structural support for when you form the sand). This will probably save you $100 in materials, if not more... ...

Happy halloween, everyone! I have for sale a 3-chime Lonergan Steam Whistle. It is 3" in diameter and is currently operational. The sound can be heard here: http://youtu.be/DuvsPrdDiq0?t=3m20s The whistle was blown at 150psi with a 1/2" supply line from the boiler. The whistle will come wi...

Re: Engine-driven air compressor
Never thought about the automobile a/c pumps... That's cool. 1:1 locos are belt driven off the drive shaft, usually if I'm not mistaken. You'd just be copying the prototype :) If you do run a compressor off the drive shaft, make sure you have a safety on your air tanks... Don't wanna have a catastro...

Seeking Fred Eisner...
Is anyone in contact with Fred Eisner?
I was chatting with a friend and he mentioned that he has not been able to reach Fred. I thought I would put a feeler out to see if Fred is still in good health, and if anyone knew a way I could contact him.
Thanks!
