Thanks, Spro...I can actually SEE the thing again from behind the mountain of insulation that I had in front of it in the garage...lol! At any rate, once I have room to move it around, I'm gonna strip it entirely and check it out. Where did you come across the parts though, just for future reference?

Yes indeed, although it's been sitting there doing nothing since I bought it...made a couple of test cuts, that's about it, as I'm mid-renovation on the basement right now... I do think, however, that the cylinder that controls the downward feed of the cut is shot, as it seems like there's no resist...

Got any pics millman? As for the coolant going rancid part....are there purely synthetic oils that won't go stinky? I'm strictly a weekend warrior, with several other projects on the go...would hate to start growing something in my garage without knowing about it... :?

came out of an old sheet metal shop up north...getting it out of my minivan on my own was lotsa fun... :?

Going to try to run it this weekend...also have to check into how i can fit in a coolant pump...tray and basin's there, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Well, I took the plunge...it's an old RIGID saw, built by emerson...it's a tank, rock solid. Runs fine, let you know how it cuts! Thanks for the help!

Thanks everyone....going tomorrow morning to take a look at it and was going to bring a 2" chunk of round stock (ordinary cold rolled steel)...is there a time in which the machine should be able to complete such a task?

Buying a used bandsaw

I'm just starting out with a used 3 in 1 and have a line on an industrial bandsaw that a guy is selling for 50 bucks...said he bought it for $250 a couple of years ago and has been cutting mainly aluminum with it to rebuild a boat... said it was a "9 foot blade" too...is that a common size...

it doeas, thanks...i kinda figured the HP of the motor would be the limitation. I guess if I ever wanted to try something bigger, a lat plate would do...

I hear ya on the time thing....bought mine in April, have used it for maybe 5 hours since... :(

Largest size 4-jaw chuck?

Wondering what is the largest adviseable size 4 jaw chuck I can put on my busy bee B2229 (same as the grizzly or HF equivalent 16x20" combo machines)...only want ot buy one, so I want it to handle anything down the road that would require a 4 jaw...

The stock 3-jaw is 5"...

good luck talking to busy bee...I have the same machine, although I got it at their annual clearout sale...called to ask a question about rewiring the switch and didn't get a lot of useful help...
