Re: Fed up

I asked for a price to erect 350 yards of fence.
Guy said he'd figure it out and get back to me.
After a couple of weeks I gave up on him, ordered 140 fence posts and 7 rolls of wire fence, and got to it.
A week or two after I finished, he called with the estimate.

Re: Eyeglass worn with mask fog getter ridder of-er

Most people seem to be wearing "surgical" masks [here anyway]. They don't seal on the face at all. I suppose exhaled droplets might get caught in the fabric while some air goes through and some goes around. But they seem pretty useless to me. BUT; you can wear one all day with little disco...

Re: Eyeglass worn with mask fog getter ridder of-er

I use industrial dust + mist mask I had a box of when the trouble started. The kind with a metal strip to form over the bridge of the nose. I found that careful shaping of the strip to match the face prevents exhaled breath from shooting up and fogging my glasses. So I think you're on the right trac...

Re: Duburring Raw Stock

My system is simple; I just keep a roll of duct tape in the workbench top drawer.

Just tape up those sliced fingers instead of wasting precious time deburring.

Re: Way OT, recommend a good refrigerator...

Sometimes you can strip out the electronics. I did that for a whiz-bang air-conditioner I have on my boat. The electronic control box failed just after the company did. I rewired the compressor, fan, and pump to a switch, thermostat, and relay. Now it's incredibly dumb, real stone age machine. And o...

Re: benchtop vise restoration

If it's a through hole in mild steel, I just drive the tap right through with the drill.
One time I tapped 110 8mm holes through 6mm steel with a handheld power drill.
The tap made it through the end without breakage, but the drill was toast. And it wasn't a cheap one!

Re: single point boring with a drill press

Thanks guys; Obviously, it has limited application; minimum bore is fairly large and has to be a though hole. The bar has to engage with the support hole before the cutter engages, which leaves limited travel, so the maximum cut depth is only around 60mm. But it was affordable, which is important fo...

single point boring with a drill press

I made this tool some years ago to solve a problem; I needed to bore 1" egg shaped holes round to repair my tractor front end loader. It will bore decently round holes; finish is variable, I usually hone afterwards. Accurate sizing is tough too, usually I just bore it somewhere in the neighborh...
