Re: HELP! LE American eccentric straps

I just noticed I made an error in my post. It should have read as follows: Dianne: The C.P. Huntington I'm constructing has the same valve gear as the your Little Engines American. I checked my engine and found that the straight rods are on the outside and connect with the TOP of the link, the rods ...

Re: LE 4-4-0 mane rod

The main rod of your engine is the same as the C.P. Huntington I'm building. It's been a long time since I made that part but I think I drilled the holes first and then machined the outside, measuring from the holes. The taper was done by holding the rod in the milling machine's vice at a slight ang...

What can be used as stand for storing/mantaining locomotive?

I recently found my old stand - which I made out of an old wood aquarium stand - has termites. Since I do not want to bring termites into the house I just bought I am planing to build a new stand. What are the rest of you using for a locomotive stand? Is there something cheap that can be adapted? I ...

Re: Looking for teeny springs

Here's a trick I heard about but have never tried myself: Take a screw and a piece of steel wire and clamp them in a vice. Wrap the steel wire around the screw so that the wire comes to rest in the bottom of the threads. When the spring is the lenght you want, remove the screw and wire from the vice...

Re: Allen 4-4-0.....

I driven the one owned by the Southern California Live Steamers several times. My strongest impressions is that they steam well but don't pull much. At the most it can pull about four passengers plus engineer and conductor up the hills on the SCLS line. The valve gear is a bit of a pain to work on b...

Another safety valve question.

OK, so it may not be a good idea to use an air compressor safety valve on a miniature boiler (see my last post at http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=93395). So what size of steam safety valve would be best to use on my Little Engines C. P. Huntington and where can I purchase...

Can air compressor safety valve be used for steam boiler?

I purchased an air compressor safety value with the idea of modifying it to use on my Little Engines C. P. Huntington's boiler. The valve exhausts out the sides but I think it might be possible to attach some pieces to the outside of the valve body to divert the exhaust upward. Has anybody done some...
