This site has plans for a Doble Compound engine for $35.20. Is that the same thing you're lookin' for?

I don't know for sure it's the thread you had in mind (entitled 'new version of Caliper Accuracy article available' posted by Rick) But reading tdmidgets responses was a good laugh. Just the kind of person(?) a site doesn't need. And if that is the thread ya meant, the article is a pretty interestin...

Any chance it was a regular pick that someone modified?
Doesn't look like it'd be that hard to do. A little cuttin', a little grindin' then a little more smackin' on the old ties.

Doesn't that have something to do with waterproofing it so it can be used for gator huntin'?

We have a floor cleaner at work made by Johnson Wax called 'J shop 600' Alot of us use it for cleaning the really nasty stuff off of machines. It will affect paint if not diluted and left to sit before wiping off, but when diluted and not let to sit, it works great. When used straight, it doesn't re...

This one is the way I have the best luck, like Richard described and Steve posted... http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/ToolGuide/ToolGuideArticle.aspx?id=5206 I gotta admit, I do get a good chuckle at work if a new guy is trying and trying to get a blade rolled up. I offer to show him, then qui...

Well, I'm sorry to say, but I've never been to a steam show.
There is a steam museum near me around Portersville PA that I've past many times, but have never stopped in.

I think it'd be interesting to see how some people load/transport/unload some of these machines.

5 or so years ago, I took a week long programming class at the Mazak production facility in Kentucky, and when we toured the plant, there were quite a few guys hand scraping the ways.
It was really something to see. We probably stood on the catwalk for atleast 10 minutes watching them.

Re: Scope vs. laser alignment

If the scope could focus on something that is relatively close to it, that sounds like a good idea.
