Add some Dykem to grease and you'll (almost) have non-drying.

If you had a thread plug gage of the same size thread you are cutting, you could use the mic for comparing the gage threads to the threads being made, but to actually measure them, like Harold said, they wouldn't work too good.

What is it you are making and what tools do you feel you need? Jim Boy, you've really got me interested as well. I'm spending a bunch os time making a backplate and soft jaws to fit a used chuck I picked up for $60 for my lathe because I don't have the $800 to get the Bison Adjust-tru 6-jaw with 2-...

Hmm, maybe just buying (or ya could make one) tool #4, which could probably be used to make tool 2 & 1, and maybe even part B (if ya really need that part). But then again, I don't think Fumblethumbs Industrial Supply has tool #4 in stock, but they can usually get one in 6-8 months. And I have h...

Re: Handtool Batteries

One local supplier said that Makita has discontinued their Ni MH (Nickle-Metal-Hydride) batteries because they just don't hold up as well as Ni Cad. They leak off their charge when not in a charger and appear loose the ability to provide high current necessary for motors even though they have longe...

I just clicked on the bulletin board link Franco provided and didn't need to log in or anything to view it or any of the threads. I got to the magazine site, but when I try to search it , then I had some troubles. I waited a little more than a minute for the search page to open, but it didn't open i...

That makes sense then. In the shop I work at, we mostly have the minus pins, and a few plus pins, but have never worked with (or seen for that matter) actual size ones. Even the pins we special make for our own use are usually a couple tenths under sized. (so we know the hole will be actual size the...

Something that I may have missed, in the above posts, is that a .500" gauge pin will NOT fit in a .500" hole.. You need a couple of tenths to work with. Greg B. All the gage pins I've seen are either specified as plus or minus pins. With them being usually .0002" + or - the size indi...
