Re: Mystery thread pitch on waterglass drain stem

A jeweler's loupe and a thread pitch gauge would help a lot. If you don't have either, maybe it's time. If it is BA, it won't match up with "threads per inch".

Re: Lapping in bushings

I am pretty sure we all understand what Bill is saying, even though he may not be using exactly the correct word. l'm certainly not confused. I don't think anyone else is either. Most drawings for miniature steam locomotives are not true "engineering" drawings, tolerances are seldom given....

Re: best way to get started?

With 1" scale there are plenty of tracks if you know where to look. I am able to put a steam locomotive, tender, 2 riding cars, all the paraphernalia for a steamer, a cooler, luggage, myself and my wife into a Pontiac Vibe. We have run on tracks from New York to California, all 4-3/4" gaug...

Re: best way to get started?

One thing you could do to get started, is to thank all the folks that answered your first post from several months ago. Did you heed any of the advice from the answers from your first post? Answering and thanking folks that have taken the time to help you out shows that you are serious. Going radio ...

Re: Friends models hudson

Hi Ken, Yes, L/D is length to diameter of the flue tubes. Here's a site that I used to check the potential effectiveness of my boiler. Using the spread sheet, it actually made me reduce the size of my pistons to better match the boiler. This was also the advice from another fellow on an English ME s...

Re: Kozo A3 3/4 scale up and running sort of

Thank you for the help. Much appreciated. Will have to look up what an injector and steam pump are. sky An injector and steam pump are devices to put water into your boiler. The steam pump, is actually a steam driven water pump. An injector uses boiler pressure steam to put water into the boiler. B...

Re: Kozo A3 3/4 scale up and running sort of

Pipe it so the output of the hand pump goes into the input of the axle pump (instead of into the boiler). The output of the axle pump would be left as is. This will allow you to blank off the boiler bushing that would normally come from the hand pump. (Use it for an injector or steam pump!) To use t...

Re: Firetube Boiler Project - Leak Troubles

I use both kinds. I discovered the black after using the white. I mostly use the black, it is a "tougher" flux. Seems to last longer under heat than the white. This seems for my work, advantageous for large assemblies. I did my entire copper loco boiler with black flux. 5" diameter by...
